Updates to Existing CMDS e-Learning Modules
We have recently improved/updated two existing modules in the CMDS eLearning library.
Confined Space Awareness
The previous content did not explore the legislative requirements, nor did it provide a detailed explanation the concepts. We have added content aimed at introducing basic confined space awareness concepts. The additional material will help improve the individuals proficiency in the identification of a confined space, understand the responsibilities of workers, as well as understand the legislative requirements of working in a confined space.
At the conclusion of this module users will be able to:
- Describe the difference between a confined space and a restricted space.
- Identify a confined space.
- Explain the legislative requirements of working in a confined space.
- Discuss the roles and responsibilities related to working in a confined space.
- Identify associated hazards of working in a confined space.
Managing the Control Of Hazardous Energy I
This module has been modified to better align with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Legislation (2009) in regards to managing the control of hazardous energy. The previous lockout tagout module did not detail legislative requirements, nor did it provide further explain the concepts. The objective of the new content is to enable field and facility personnel to recognize when and how to lock out and tag out equipment. The following topics are introduced:
- Introduction – the 7 minimum requirements of an MCHE system
- Hazardous energy
- Hazards requiring lockout/tagout
- Lockout/tagout requirements
Each module has a 10 question quiz that will test the readers understanding of the topics covered. The quizzes are made up of multiple choice and True/False questions. A 90% or higher is required to receive a passing grade. It is important to note that if a user received a passing grade on these modules previously, their passing grade will remain, and they will not have to redo the quiz.
Both Confined Space Awareness and Managing the Control Of Hazardous Energy I can be found under the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Category.
