Keyera Training Updates

Keyera Training Updates

H2S Refresher Training

Keyera now has an approved process in place to manage the reassessment requirements for H2S. In the past when your H2S training certification expired, personnel would attend a 3rd party provider to recertify.

When your H2S ticket expires, the new process going forward will be:

  • Completion of the eLearning "H2S Awareness"

  • Revalidation of the competency 100.0291 - Demonstrate knowledge and skill dealing with Hydrogen Sulphide

  • NOTE: validation method required is the "demonstration method"

Questions:

Why the change?

  • The eLearning has the content to cover the knowledge component external training would offer.

  • Trained validators will determine if facility personnel have the understanding and skill to work safely around H2S and CMDS will document competence and track validations.

  • The new process targets the specifics around Keyera facility processes and the equipment used when dealing with H2S rather than generic external training.

Where will this training be recognized?

  • It is applicable at all Keyera facilities

  • It may not be recognized with other companies outside of Keyera.

Will I get a card to indicate my current H2S standing?

  • No, CMDS will have the documented evidence your competency working with H2S is valid.

What if I don't have this competency in CMDS?

  • Talk with your leader to ensure this competency has been assigned to you in a profile fitting to your role.

Can I use this training approach for my initial H2S training?

  • No, this is for refresher only. All personnel are to have completed external H2S training prior to utilizing this refresher process.

Is there an MOC for this change?

  • Yes, the ORMC has approved the change and this communication is a component of the MOC.

Any other questions? Please contact Keyera's Corporate Responsibility Training team.

Please Note: Working with H2S is a critical task and this process is in place to ensure personnel fully understand the hazards and how to mitigate those hazards specific to the facility they work at. Diligence is required in the validation to ensure personnel continue to be competent in working around H2S and follow the processes Keyera has in place to be #1 in safety.

If your organization would like to establish a process similar to the one described above, please contact your account manager for assistance.

Mobile Equipment Refresher Training

Keyera now has an approved process in place to manage the reassessment of personnel using mobile equipment at their facilities. Past practice has been to send personnel to 3rd party providers to recertify on the equipment they use.

This process is applicable to the following;

  • Aerial Work Platforms

  • Skid steers

  • Fork lifts

  • Telehandler

  • Loader/Tractor

  • All terrain / Utility vehicles

Going forward when personnel expire on their 3rd party training, facility leaders will determine who at their site will be the subject matter experts for that specific equipment.

The subject matter expert will:

  • Have taken 3rd party provided training in the past for the equipment they will be validating personnel in.

  • Have completed Keyera's validator training

  • Have the Keyera-9143 Mobile Equipment profile assigned to them

  • Be Validated in all the applicable competencies within the profile, specifically 105.0001 "Act as the designated Mobile Equipment Re-assessment validator"

Site Personnel requiring re-assessment of one or more of the noted pieces of equipment will:

  • Have taken 3rd party provided training in the past for the equipment they are being validated in

  • Have the Keyera-9143 Mobile Equipment profile assigned to them.

  • Self-assess themselves against the applicable competencies in the profile. Submit those self-assessments to the validator

  • Complete the validation of the self-assessed competency with the designated validator for that specific piece of equipment.

The competencies in the mobile equipment profile are on a three year time frequency.

Questions:

Why the change?

  • This is an option OHS allows companies to take with specific requirements. The requirements have been built into the competencies in the mobile equipment profile

  • Keyera can validate personnel with the use of facility specific equipment rather than training on generic equipment they may not use.

Who is a Subject matter expert?

  • Someone who is familiar with the equipment and have previous experience to give them the understanding to validate a person using the knowledge and skill component of the competency noted in CMDS

  • Someone who understands the process in validating a person's competency

Is train the trainer required by the subject matter expert?

  • No, they only require a good understanding of the equipment they plan to validate people in.

What if the subject matter expert is unfamiliar or has no previous experience with one of the noted pieces of equipment in the profile?

  • They cannot validate anyone in a competency they are not validated in themselves

Is there an MOC for this change?

  • Yes, the ORMC has approved the process this communication is a component of the MOC.

Any other questions? Please contact Keyera's Corporate Responsibility Training team.

Please Note: Keyera's drive to be #1 in safety, diligence is required from the validators to ensure the facility personnel using this equipment fully understand the use, the risk and mitigation to control that risk. Leaders selecting the subject matter experts need to ensure the individuals they select have this diligence.
