Scheduled Maintenance Updates

Scheduled Maintenance Updates

Each night the CMDS database server runs a variety of system-level maintenance tasks. This is the window of time during which it performs backups and routine updates to its own internal indexes and statistics.

Currently, the system is not off-line during this period of time, and it does not need to be taken off-line, but occasionally it requires about 15 minutes to do everything it needs to do, and if one of our users happens to be working in the system at that time, then they can encounter a timeout error in their browser. By default, browsers don’t like to wait more than about 2 minutes for a response from a server.

To prevent the possibility of any of our users encountering an error, on a point-forward we configuring CMDS to take itself off-line from 3:00 AM to 3:30 AM every night, so the server has time to do its routine nightly maintenance.

Note: We ran a query to count the number of people who sign in during each hour of the day over the past year. The results showed that CMDS has the least amount of activity between 3:00 and 3:30 AM Mountain Time.

In the future, if you happen to sign in during this 30-minute window, the system will display a maintenance notice as a reminder.
