August 2015 Additions to the CMDS e-Learning Library
We have recently added four new modules to the CMDS eLearning library.
Introduction to Fugitive Methane Emissions
The objective of this module is to introduce the problem of fugitive methane emissions and how to deal with them. Topics covered will include:
- Fugitive emissions sources
- Detection methods
- Mitigation suggestions
Introduction to Geology
This module will introduce the geology of the oil industry, explain myths, and lift the veil on formation names.
Introduction to Piles and Foundations
Every permanent structure in the oil and gas industry has a support structure to match. Engineers are methodical and particular in their design and specifications for piling and foundations, with project superintendents and project managers charged with the successful implementation. Facility superintendents may be invited to function as project managers or to provide input, and must be conversant with construction practices and terminology. This module is designed to open a window into this part of the construction world.
Introduction to Waste Management
The oil and gas industry generates a number of waste streams as by-products of operations. These wastes include household wastes, produced water, used oil and filters, pyrophoric materials, radioactive contamination, contaminated soils, spent chemicals, mixed products, such as tank bottoms, off spec product, scrap metal and end-of-life components. In all jurisdictions these wastes are comprehensively regulated, and equally comprehensively, appropriate handling and disposal methods have been developed. This module will provide an overview of waste management.
Each module has a 10 question quiz that will test the readers understanding of the topics covered. The quizzes are made up of multiple choice and True/False questions. A 90% or higher is required to receive a passing grade.
